This book made me sad. I have loved other books by this author. The first was ok. This one isnt. I keep putting it down and forgetting it. The historical facts cloud the story as do the overlong descriptions of places. I have skipped through pages at a time. And the situations are less than plausible. Seriously, combine a few books and leave out the lengthy descriptions.Isnt there an editor?I will try one more.... Molly is a female detective in an era when women were expected to get married, have children, and accept their circumstance. Not Molly. As an Irish woman, on the run from a possible murder charge, she finds her way to New York where a whole new life awaits her. We marvel along with her as she discovers New York at the turn of the century (1900) and as she becomes embroiled in stopping a man who plotted and killed President McKinley. She is considered an anomaly, and is scoffed at when trying to stop him. This book is great fun to read. Interesting characters,very well developed. I was a little put off by some of the repetitive writing, and by the way the story so often took a break to contemplate why she had “just not stayed home and not tackled the dangerous situation she was in”. But, all in all, it was a fun and exciting story. With more to come.....
